I have been fascinated by the Zodiac case for many years, so when I saw this book, I had to buy it. I didn't know what to expect; maybe it was just another person making spurious connections to his father like the man who claims his father killed the Black Dahlia, but the proof in this book is enough for me to believe. The narrative is well-written and detailed--it's clear the author devoted countless hours to his research. This isn't a sensationalized account of the Zodiac; it's a heartfelt account of a man trying to learn more about the father who abandoned him in an apartment stairwell. I highly recommend this book.

The Most Dangerous Animal of All Searching for My Father and Finding the Zodiac Killer Gary L Stewart Susan Mustafa 8601410614294 Books Reviews

It lacks significant evidence. All the victims looked like mom...I don't see it. EVB Jr photo and Zodiac sketch ...many people could have be seen as be as bearing a resemblance to a sketch. Perhaps there is something to the handwriting but too small sample of EVB Jr writings in my opinion to give so much potential of a match even from a Professional. Lastly, no DNA TEST. AND the cyphers, seems that many people have found various names with no definitive answers with confidence.
From the moment I picked the book up I was riveted. The Zodiac case is one I find extremely interesting. Earl Van Best Jr. may actually be the man based on the evidence Gary Stewart lays out.

The skeptic will always be a skeptic. But without spoiling the book, let me say that the evidence is provided for all to see with their own eyes and is quite indisputable.

To credit the author, I did not need to hear about the Zodiac in order to remain interested in this story. Gary Stewart's story is about himself, an orphaned child, looking for his birth father and finding something he never expected to find. His life story is unique, extremely interesting, and heart-breaking. This was an emotional book which made it easy for it to engross me.

The only bad thing about this book is that it eventually ended. It spoiled the next book for me...as I'm already bored and wishing it would captivate me as Gary Stewart's book had. Cudos to him and Susan Mustafa for putting together a book that I will visit again.

And hopefully...the SFPD will do its job and complete the task at hand. Let's put this case to rest!
I too was curious and skeptical about this Zodiac book and pleasantly drawn into its journey. It all rings very true to me. It actually takes the celebrity out of the serial killer as so many of them are celebrated with the fascination we have for them. Kudos to Gary Stewart in his pursuit of his roots. We are all curious about our own. We don't get to chose our parents but with some love and support we can choose our perspective, whatever your sign may be. This was a worthy search for Catharsis.
The author of this book who was adopted was just searching for his birth parents when he unexpectedly found compelling evidence that his father was the Zodiac killer.

The majority of this nonfiction book is written like a fictional story. The author strung together a narrative from paper trails, verbal stories, and other bits and pieces gleaned from anyone who encountered his father. Based on significant circumstantial evidence laid-out in this book it does seem likely Earl Van Best Jr was the Zodiac Killer. If I said why, I’d spoil the book somewhat.
Very well written and very suspenseful. Very persuasive as well. Well told. Difficult to put down! It is a good follow up to the movie based on the true story as told by the "reporter" Robert Graysmith. The identity of the Zodiac Killer had remained shrouded in uncertaintly. They had not found the Zodiac killer because this suspect had eluded them! In this follow up account, a young man set out to find his father. As he unraveled the circumstances of his own abandonment, he pieced together the story of his own beginnings. A man obsessed with a young girl lured her away from her mother. She was a mere child of 13. A newspaper reporter wrote the story of an "Ice Cream Shop" Romance. Several years later, the Zodiac Killer would send letters to this same reporter. The reporter never made the connection that the Zodiac Killer was someone he had written about a number of years earlier. Many years pass, and an abandoned baby becomes a man. When his birth mother reaches out to him, he begins his quest to find his father. He and his mother hit a brick wall, so to speak, until the young man sees a police sketch of "The Zodiac Killer". Then two mysteries begin to unravel. Finding his father and finding the Zodiac Killer are one in the same.
I could not put this book down. The whole story is so well written and put together. I am completely convinced that Earl Van Best Jr is the Zodiac killer. I did not think that I would be so thoroughly convinced. I am really surprised that so many people are being critical about the "lack of evidence." Back in the day and even now, without DNA, many cases are won if you have enough convincing circumstantial evidence. Nowadays, most of us prefer DNA, or both, but honestly, just comparing his picture to the sketch, and taking into account his unique scar on his finger which matched a fingerprint left behind from one of the Zodiac crime scenes alone was huge!
